Maggie's Online Centre is created and run by Maggie's Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Centres Trust, registered charity no. SC024414, a company limited by guarantee, registered company no SC142451, registered office Maggie's, The Stables, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, EH4 2XU, (referred to throughout as 'Maggie's Online Centre', 'Maggie's online', 'Maggie's', 'us' or 'we'). These terms and conditions cover anyone who uses the website and community (referred to throughout as 'you' or 'member').
Please read through these terms and conditions carefully before registering a profile on Maggie's Online Centre. Please click the box below to indicate you agree to abide by them at all times whilst using the site. If you don't agree to them please do not create a profile or use the site. By creating a profile you agree that you are over 18 years of age.
We can amend this agreement at any time so please check back periodically for updates. We will post a blog entry detailing any major change to the terms and conditions - if you don't agree to the change please do not use Maggie's Online Centre. Not reading this agreement does not mean you are exempt from the terms and conditions set out here.
Maggie's Online Centre is for anyone affected by cancer in the UK and offers an inviting and welcoming environment in which to share experiences with other members.
Maggie's Online Centre has profiles, conversations, groups, photo galleries and blogs created by site members. To register a profile you must give a valid e-mail address and unique username. Registered members can access Online Support Groups as well as posting content in conversations and in their profile.
By creating a profile on Maggie's Online Centre you agree to adhere to site rules and respect other members at all times.
Please adhere to the house rules with any content you add to your profile, personal messages you send to another member or conversations you post. We reserve the right to remove any content that is deemed to break site rules and regulations.
We ask you to abide by the following site rules and regulations and be considerate of other members at all times and with any content you put on the site.
The conversations, personal messages and content in your profiles will be moderated by sample and reactive moderation - this means your conversations, blogs, messages and content will go live instantly so please think before you post. Maggie's moderators will remove any content that is deemed unacceptable.
If you find any content offensive or believe it breaks site rules and regulations use the 'Alert a Moderator' button to report the post to the moderator or contact the Online Manager if there is no button available. Please think carefully about complaining about any content as using the 'Alert a Moderator' button will remove it immediately from the website until the moderator can check it.
If you persistently break site rules and regulations we reserve the right to pre-moderate your posts or remove your profile from this website.
Information and advice given in Maggie's Online Centre is in no way a substitute for medical advice.
Opinions expressed in conversations, blogs, profiles and personal messages are the opinions of members, not of Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Centres Trust. Maggie's does not endorse any medical treatment, alternative therapy or complementary therapy discussed or mentioned in the Online Centre.
By posting content you agree that we can use all or part of the message or profile content for fundraising, research or promotion purposes. Any content we use will be fully anonymous and handled sensitively.
All personal information you disclose in your profile, in conversations, through your personal message in-box and during an Online Support Group is done so at your own risk. Maggie's cannot accept any responsibility for any personal contact information that you post on the site or send to another member in a personal message and we recommend that you refrain from adding these details to your profile, personal messages and conversations.
You can view the groups, conversations, centre information and events pages without any record of your visit to Maggie's Online. We will keep statistical information of what you view but it will never be traced to you.
If you choose to register a profile we will store your username, password and e-mail address on our secure database. Any information that you add to your profile will also be stored securely under your username. At no point will we use this information to identify you, contact you or pass your details onto a third party unless you give us reason to believe you, or someone you talk about, is at risk of significant harm.
If you choose to join an Online Support Group a record of this will be added to your account so that you can access the group. This is not publicly available and will be stored securely on our database.
Your profile will remain live for as long as you choose to use it. If you stop using your profile it will be deleted from the database after 2 years.
Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you are entitled to see any records that are kept about you. Due to the anonymity of Maggie's Online Centre we need to be convinced that you are who you say you are. This is to protect you so that your information cannot be accessed by a third party. Please contact the Online Manager to discuss how to access your records should you wish to do so.
All copyright, trade marks, design rights, patents and other intellectual property rights (whether registered, unregistered, vested, contingent or future) on this website and all content, including all user generated content, shall be the exclusive property of Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Centres Trust.
You may not copy, reproduce, download, transmit, make available to the public or otherwise use the content of this site in any way except for your own personal, private and non-commercial use.
