Maggie's On Line Support Groups

Started by Anonymous on 10 August 2011 at 10:36

Hi All,

Has anyone been to the on line support groups Maggie's has to offer? I have been to the Living With Cancer Group on a tuesday evening 7pm until 8pm and found it to be a massive support to me whilst I was going through some very difficult times during my treatment. I spoke to other members at the group who knew and understood exactly how I was feeling. I shared with a lot of poeple the dates of forth coming scans and then the fear after the scan of waiting for the scan results and then shared with them the results.

The beauty of the on line group is you don't have to make tea and coffee for everyone and biscuits :):) You can sit in your pj's and relax and you can share also with a professional, Tracy. Whilst I was going through some really low times Tracy helped me learn how to cope and be more positive about things.

Come on Maggie's members get signed up to these groups.

Beverley

    Hello

Thanks Beverley for posting about your experience of the Living with cancer online support group.  Our confidential groups each run at a set time each week.  Places  in our groups are limited and we ask that anyone joining   the group agrees to attend for four weeks  to see if the group is for them and  then makes a regular commitment to attend weekly whenever possible.

We currently have spaces in 3 of our online support groups:
     Living with cancer (Tuesday 7-8pm)
     Carers group (Tuesday 7-8pm)
Connections -  our bereavement group (Monday 7-8pm)

All our groups are facilitated by a professional, either a psychologist or a cancer information and support specialist.  Members of the group “talk” to each other through typing.   Don’t worry if you are not   good at typing - members of all typing speeds and abilities are welcome and you will be given the time you need.

There are no cameras involved and you will be able to read what other members of the group type. You will also have access to a group discussion board which is only visible to members of your group so you can keep in touch with other members and the facilitator  between sessions.

To join an online support group you need to be a registered member of the online centre .  You can find out more about our online support groups and register  or, if you have questions you are welcome to send me a message

    Best wishes

    Robyn
