It's been a while

I feel like a bit of a prodigal son as it's a long, long time since I was on the Maggie's online site. I am still a regular at my home Maggie's in Fife, and gain a lot from the company and support on offer there.  I suppose I have come on here today as it's the point in the year when the anniversary of a cancer diagnosis comes round.  Exactly eight years ago today I was admitted to hospital with "mystery symptoms".  I was to learn a few days later that I had a metastisised gastrointestinal stromal tumour or GIST to give it its more managable title.

My initial thoughts were "give me two years and I'll accept that".  But, here we are eight years later and I'm still going strong.  Surgery was out of the question, but I was prescribed the highly effective, revolutionary oral treatment Glivec which has kept me stable for such a long time.

So there is hope and there is reason to be grateful.  Of course, the sobering thing is the niggle that comes now and again - "where have those eight years gone"?  Still, "if I get anothe two years I'll accept that..........".

It's lovely to hear from you, and catch up with how things are going? 8 years since that hospital admission - and I imagine there have been many ups and downs along the way.

Anniversary dates can prod us, just when we feel life is on an even keel. I'm not surprised to hear that in the midst of the good news and hope, there's always some moments of reflection...

Thanks for sharing today's thoughts...and wishing you continued good health...

    Warm wishes
