Started by Anonymous on 08 January 2017 at 20:36

Hi, I live in the Glasgow area and am looking for advice on the best places to go for Mastectomy bra's??? My Mum had a single mastectomy a few weeks ago. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Buying a good mastectomy bra can be the first step to your mum regaining her body confidence after her recent surgery. I'm thinking she may be due a prosthesis fitting soon, and some hospitals have a bra fitting service too (but not all).

There are many attractive bras available through a number of online outlets, and they're usually very accommodating regarding changing bras etc, if they dont fit. You'll find details of online outlets which offer this service, as well as links to other helpful websites in our Maggie's Cancerlinks section on 'Clothing post surgery. A list of suppliers is also in the back of a useful downloadable booklet from Breast Cancer Care 'Breast prostheses, bras and clothes after surgery'.

However a good bra fitting service can help enormously. Some department services offer this service, and usually have staff on hand who have experience in fitting post mastectomy ladies. (Debenhams and Marks and Spencers, for example).

In Scotland, there is company called 'Something pretty' who offer a bra fitting service in the Buchanan clinic, Glasgow. They also do mail order.

Your mum's breast care specialist nurse is likely to know of good bra suppliers locally too, so your mum could give her a call?

    Good luck with your purchasing,

    Warm wishes
