Today I am feeling terrified

Started by Anonymous on 16 March 2012 at 18:04

My husband  was diagnosed T3b N2 rectal cancer this morning.  Am in shock.  I know it's not good and the surgeon was trying to reassure but I was hoping for T1 T2 max - never considered it would be worse.  Still staging in order to work out treatment but likely to be chemo/radio first then op and more after.  I know I am new to all this.  Can anyone give me any advice on what to do in the c3 weeks we have before the op or chemo start.  How do I get him in the best possible condition to fight this thing?  Re chemo does anyone have any information for me.  What websites should I be looking at.

Any, all help gratefully received. F

Hello Fiona I am not surprised that you are in shock I imagine that you are overwhelmed with both information and emotions...  if you are near one of our centres you and/or your husband  would be very welcome to drop in.

I am sure that other members of our friendly online community will soon be in touch with you either here or via private message.

Have you and your husband  had a chance to talk to each other over the weekend about his diagnosis and how you can cope with it together?

You will find some useful websites listed in the colorectal section of our cancer information website.  Maggie’s  Cancerlinks. (the 4th link down the page "just diagnosed?" from Beating Bowel cancer is a good starting place)   The specialist nurse and doctors in your husbands medical team will be able to  provide specific information about the chemo your husband will be having ( there are many different types) .

You are of course also welcome to send me a message anytime

Best wishes to you and your family
