Parents with cancer workshop

I often get messages asking about how to talk to children about cancer or from parents concerned about how their children are reacting to their cancer diagnosis and I know this is an area that many of you  find very difficult.

We are delighted to be able to let you know of a workshop here at Maggie’s Online Centre  for  parents with cancer. This workshop will take place on Wednesday 17th April at 11.00. and will be led  by  Rachel Fearnley author of  “Communicating with children when a parent is at the end of life”  a book  for healthcare professionals supporting children whose parent is terminally ill. She has worked for many years with children and families in different settings and we are delighted that she has agreed to take part.

Rachel will be leading an online discussion about parenting when living with cancer.  Areas that she will cover include exploring some of the challenges experienced, how parents cope and what support they might find helpful to manage the situation.  There will also be a discussion about communicating with children of different ages during this period and suggestions for maintaining a preferred parenting style.

This will be a text based group chat – places are limited and you need to sign up in advance.  You can find out more about the session, our other online groups and how to sign up here.
