Have a say in cancer research

Whether you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with cancer you will have valuable insight into what might help people living with cancer in their lives.

Debbie Cavers, a Research Fellow in the Medical School at the University of Edinburgh is asking visitors to all of our  Centres for help with  her research.

I have posted her request below. If you would like to take part you can complete the survey online here ,  email Debbie directly at the address below or if you would prefer you can message Sue (susieq) or me and we can email you a form using the email address you used to register for the Online Centre.

Best wishes

Message from Debbie:

''I am doing a study to better understand the experiences of people who have cancer and one or more other long term illnesses.

Before I start interviewing people about their experiences, I would like to ask people in this position, or family carers of people in this position, what they think are the most important issues are for research.

I would like to know what topics you think that researchers and health services need to learn more about to give better care.

If you would like to have your say in highlighting what you would like to see improve for people living with cancer and other illnesses (such as diabetes, heart and lung disease), then l  would be greateful if you could comment on  a short document.

The document sets out some key things a small group of people who have experienced cancer and another illness came up with.

We want you to tell us what you think are the most important - and tell us about any others they didn’t mention. add your thoughts and comments in the boxes provided.

Any information you give that could identify you or others will be treated confidentially and only general themes drawn from what everyone says will be made public.

You can read the document and  complete the  survey online here

If you would like to find out more, please contact me directly on

I can  also email you the document or, if you prefer, I can send you a paper copy and a stamped addressed envelope for you to return it to me. I will consider your responses and add them to the list of topics I plan to explore with patients, carers and health professionals in an interview study next year.

Thank you very much for your time.
Yours sincerely,
