We're looking at buring a time capsule as part of the construction of our new centre at the Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow.
Along with some items related to Walk the Walk (who have given us an incredible £2.1million to build the centre) and design plans for the centre we're trying to find and think of more items to include.
If you were to make a Time Capsule what would you look to put inside?
I think I'd probably try and find something quite personal - maybe a picture of my family together, or maybe something related to how I live my life now like my Night Hike volunteer t-shirt.
Anyone else have any suggestions for what we could include or what you would have in a personal one?
Really liked the idea of sweets and chocolate. went to the museum of childhood in London the other day where they have lots of dolls and sweets from the 1970's and it was such a trip down memory lane! Even Mars bars looked dated although someone told me that Mars Bars were the best indicator of inflation as the price of them has reflected inflation precisely... does that make sense?

I think there should be some sweets and chocolate in there - in years to come it's always good to look at retro sweetie wrappers. Pictures of staff and Centre users and a note of their favourite picture/piece of art in any of the Centres. The Centres will change over the years but the art will remain the same picture - kind of like the staff and Centre users changing over time but the element of support staying the same at Maggie's Centres. But I guess you won't be digging it up to add these things in - I'm too late with the suggestion! Maybe for next time.
The capsule was buried on Friday - full details of the day can be read here. The items that got included were:
"The timecapsule includes: a bra created by Malcolm McCormick featuring and signed by The Proclaimers; a booklet naming all 34,480 women and men who have taken part in The MoonWalk Edinburgh over the past four years and therefore contributed to raising money towards the Maggie’s Centre; the latest breast cancer statistics; bra pins; moving personal stories from people who have benefited from using Maggie’s; and much more MoonWalk and Maggie’s memorabilia."
Thank you so much Reena, we'll reveal tomorrrow what's in the Time Capsule, but a sneak preview is a Malcolm McCormick designed bra. It's a caricature of famous Scottish singers who are twins...
Can you guess who?
I am glad I could be of some help to you miss KD.I am sure you will do great.Yes, it is a great idea to put personal and non-personal things into the time capsule.I wish you all the best and with God's grace I hope you succeed.
Best wishes always,
Reena
I really like the idea of photographs, Reena, as it's personal but appeals to a wider audience as well. And a recorded message is great too as it gives a real insight into a person and their experience.
Your volunteer t-shirt is a nice addition too, TomM.
I think I'd make a capsule that was a mix of personal and non-personal. So I'd put in a favourite music CD and I might make something, like a collage, that says something about who I am. For the non-personal, something about the history of the area and the local people - a story from each generation about what the place means to them, which could include photos too.
Hi there,
I think you can place a white piece of cloth with inspirational message from people who are taking part in this memorable event.Or you could take photographs of people who have fought cancer successfully. This is to support their effort and help those with cancer to fight. You could also place a recorded message of you talking so when the time capsule is opened people can listen to what you said.I am probably not helping but it just an idea.Hope you find one that is great for this event.
