how to get through the night

Any advice on how to walk 20 miles with not training would be appreciated. I have always participated on the sidelines of Maggie's events, cheering others on, giving out the medals...the nice stuff....the question is can i take the pain?

Wonderful website, full of great information that I wish I'd found a month ago, rather than this morning when I'm searching for "how to deal with blisters"!

Do something about your feet.  I did 25 miles a few years ago with little problem.  Mainly because of good shoes, 2 layers of socks, changes of socks and Compeed.  It's not the distance that gets you, it's the blisters.  Anything you can do to harden the skin on your feet.  Someone told me to rub them with Surgical Spirit.  Anyone here know if this works?

I did a bit of a shorter walk before the 25 miles and identified potential sore spots on my feet.  Then I put Compeed pads on before I started walking.

    Hi Lauralee,

Did you make it? I assume so.Have you recovered yet?- possibly not quite...

I'm intrigued that you posted your comment re training tips at 1am?! Had you suddenly woken up in a panic about what you were asking of your body with only one month left?Did you take TracyM's advice & use music? Do let me know what worked for you..

Fair play to you. I recommend you have a soundtrack to your pain! I'm similarly trying to make my body belive it wants to exercise more than my mind can convince it! I'm relying on the tunes to carry me through.. I wonder what music motivates others out there to pound the pavements....I'm still working on mine, hence my tempermental training regime!
