WCRF - Recommendation Nine

Breastfeeding and Cancer

NB: This recommendation from WCRF UK doesn't apply to all, but if it is relevant to you, it's worth taking note.

Recommendation nine is that it's best for mothers to breastfeed exclusively for up to six months and then add other liquids and foods to the baby's diet.

Breast milk is the ideal food for babies, providing all the nutrients they need. It also helps boost their immune systems and helps protect them from infection and asthma.

"There is also convincing evidence that breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancers in mothers." This protective effect for mothers is probably due to the balance of hormones during the breastfeeding process. Furthermore, at the end of breastfeeding, the body eliminates many cells in the breast, some of which may have DNA damage.

So, breastfeeding your baby is both beneficial to baby and mother.
