Latest news from Planet Nina...

Well - Nina is in hospital again, but this time the chemotherapy is not to blame....   Things were looking up a tad earlier this week, and there were signs of improvement – both in Nina’s mood and also her physical strength.  All of which was encouraging as she headed toward the last chemotherapy session next week.  Then Tuesday night happened…

Nina was feeling a bit ‘queezy’ on Tuesday evening after an afternoon trip to our local nursery, and declined supper.  Just after midnight we called G-Docs, as she was in excruciating pain across her diaphragm.  The doctor suspected a pulmonary embolism (not uncommon with chemo, apparently) so Nina was duly carted off to ARI in an ambulance.  You can judge how much pain she was in as she did not argue about going!

Various tests, x-rays and ultrasound scan today – x-rays were clear, but blood and other tests suggested another infection.  The ARI consultant dismissed the possibility of an embolism, but that Nina’s gall-bladder might be the root cause of the pain.  After the ultrasound, the radiologist described Nina’s gall-bladder as ‘mucky’ – now, I don’t know about you but I imagine that a healthy gall-bladder would look ‘mucky’ given its job, so what an unhealthy one looks like I have no idea….

Anyway, the outcome is that she went 'under the knife' earlier today and is now lighter by one very infected gall bladder.  The likely recovery time means that the last chemotherapy session is now likely to be cancelled (Nina views this as a blessing, given the problems cycle 4 and 5 caused...)
