It’s been four weeks now since builders started work on the Cotswolds centre in Cheltenham. This is such an exciting time for us here as the reality of opening a Maggie’s centre on home turf is starting to become a reality. If all goes to plan we should be opening our doors to the public by the Autumn next year. Take a look at the latest snap of our centre in working progress here.
I am delighted that the Mayor of Cheltenham has been so supportive of our events over the summer. It’s a real pleasure to introduce him and his lovely wife, Anne to local supporters of Maggie’s. Fundraising is still going strong with a Trafalgar Night Dinner planned on 17 Oct in Cheltenham and a race day on 11 Dec. If you’re interested in either please let me know.
Despite another awful English Summer, I have to say that we have been exceptionally lucky with the weather at all of our events. Maggie’s Express, the Ladies’ tennis tournament and Mary Keen’s Open Garden event all enjoyed glorious sunshine.
Cheltenham Cantilena Orchestra’s performance was spectacular and I encourage everyone to go and watch them next year if they get the opportunity. And the L.K. Bennett Shopping evening was also a roaring success which we hope to repeat next year.
The Gloucester and Cheltenham Active Friends groups continue to meet and have been so supportive this year, as I found my feet in this new role. A car boot sale, garden party, dinner, swishing event and skittles night have all helped boost funds and spread the word about Maggie’s.
I know it’s hard to believe, but with Christmas just 3 months away, I do have Maggie’s Christmas cards for sale. If you’d like to buy or help me sell some, please get in touch. On that festive note, an event not to be missed is a Christmas Open Garden event at Mill Dene Garden, Moreton-in-Marsh where this beautiful garden will be lit for people to enjoy a night-time stroll. Tickets cost just £5 adults and £2 children (5 – 15 years) and include mulled wine and a mince pie. There will be crafts and cards for sale as well as carol singers to get us well and truly in the festive spirit.
