A Year ago today

It was a year ago today my 62nd birthday I went in for my surgery...Can not believe where the year has gone. Thankfully it has all been pretty smooth. I have not had any water infections for sometime now, whether this is due to the drinking of cranberry juice and taking cranberry capsules, I am inclined to think so. Yesterday I went in for a uroscopy and a flush. It was the first time I had seen the Registrar since my last day in hospital a year ago. He said I looked very well and his comments as he peered through his little eye piece sounded quite encouraging. They also sent a sample of the flush off to the lab.  He will make a clinic appointment for me to go over these results and a Scan to be arranged prior to the clinic appointment. I was in the same theatre as I was in  a year ago so now I know what it looked like since I really wasnt paying attention last time.  At my Stoma Nurse's request I also met with a gentleman who is having the same surgery. I was happy to go through all the details and answer the questions he had .  It is always a good feeling to sit down and talk and discuss and compare what has happened with someone similiar. Within the past month I have met with a ostomate from Guilford who was visiting Oxford, again it was good to be able to sit down and compare and exchange experiences, even a few laughs. I have also joined the Oxford fellowship made up of folks who have gone through it all.  It is a pleasure to meet up in these groups and have a chance to talk with folks who are local and close by and share experiences with the Churchill Urology team. I discovered the chairperson of the fellowship lives round the corner from me ....small world
